Honda Clarity Hybrid – 47 Miles of Battery Energy

Honda has announced that the 2018 Clarity Plug-In Hybrid will have a fully-electric range of 47 miles before the gasoline engine takes over.

The Plug-In Hybrid is a mid-sized sedan which is part of the Clarity range – Honda’s nameplate for alternative-fuel vehicles. Honda has specified that it wishes for electrified vehicles to make uptwo thirds of its sales by 2030.

In terms of battery range, the Honda Clarity beats Toyota’s Prius Prime (25-mile range) and Ford’s Fusion Energi (21-mile range). The 47 mile range will allow drivers to easily commute to work and back every day on electric power, recharging the vehicle when needed. For longer trips, the petrol engine allows for less anxiety over battery depletion.

The 2018 Clarity’s power will be produced by a 181 horsepower electric motor. The gasoline engine is a 1.5 litre, four-cylinder Atkinson model which also acts as a generator for the 17kW/hr battery pack. The engine has normal, economy and sport modes to let drivers prioritise fuel efficiency or vehicle performance.

The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid will go on sale later this year, with no price specified yet.
